Why “Inside Quotations”?

What is it about quotes that inspire?

I don’t know about you, but I can spend hours pouring over lists of quotable quotes. They can make us smile, laugh, cry, and think. They give us permission to gaze through the window of someone else’s life, if only for a moment.

Quotes are life’s snapshots seen from a unique perspective, jewels of wisdom discovered and recorded because someone, somewhere, believed they’re worth remembering. Quotes paired with ideas and experiences have the power to inspire—they are the bright light that brings out the most vivid colors.

I’ve seen first-hand how a turn of phrase or humorous anecdote can shine new perspective on glossed-over thoughts, hot-button topics, or experiences that normally gain no attention at all.

Sometimes one little sentence can act as an access point—a meeting place where we can better understand one another and learn more about our world.

And maybe, just maybe, we can come closer to understanding ourselves, too.

ChristinaBenderFutagawaJapan11-22-2015About Me

I’m an American from beautiful Montana, and I am (attempting to be) an English teacher in Japan! Living abroad has been a difficult but incredibly rewarding experience so far, and it’s only just beginning.

I love exploring new places and sharing the journeys I take to get there… Taking trips and exploring places around me is one of my favorite things to do, and I’m lucky to live in a place where it doesn’t take much work to make that happen. I’m not as fond of all means of travel (due to motion sickness), but the destinations always make the journey worth it.

I love learning about people and cultures from around the world… I’ve been blessed to meet so many incredible friends from all over the globe, and they’ve taught me so much. European culture first intrigued me when I was young, and thanks to those who have impacted me throughout college and beyond, I also want to expand my horizons and explore all I can about Asia as well.

I love listening to all kinds of stories… Whether it’s meeting new people, discovering new music (even if I don’t understand the language just yet), diving into philosophical thinking, or investigating just about any literature I can get my hands on… Our world is vast, colorful, and filled with possibility.

I also know that life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows… Life can be hard, and there are no easy answers to the most important challenges we face. All relationships take investment and hard work, change over time, and may fade or break without warning. Sometimes, inexplicably, misfortunes collide in your world and seem to shatter all you hold dear.

Here is my hope… As I confide all these moments of joy and struggle, my wish is that you and I both realize we aren’t alone, we can help one another, and we can grow from every experience.

Let’s keep exploring and sharing together.
