“Go outside. Don’t tell anyone…”

“Go outside. Don’t tell anyone and don’t bring your phone. Start walking and keep walking until you no longer know the road like the palm of your hand, because we walk the same roads day in and day out, to the bus and back home and we cease to see. We walk in our sleep and teach our muscles to work without thinking and I dare you to walk where you have not yet walked and I dare you to notice. Don’t try to get anything out of it, because you won’t. Don’t try to make use of it, because you can’t. And that’s the point. Just walk, see, sit down if you like. And be. Just be, whatever you are with whatever you have, and realise that that is enough to be happy. There’s a whole world out there, right outside your window. You’d be a fool to miss it.” ― Charlotte Eriksson

We are here. We exist. Isn’t that enough?

Existence is not easy. Our lives have joy, pain, laughter, crying, moments of listlessness and glimpses of apathy.

Yet, I’m not suffering in affliction. I don’t have   Continue reading

Toyohashi, Here I Am! Thanksgiving, Here We Are!

“There are moments in life that are bigger than we know it at the time. When you look back, you say, that was one of those life-changing, fork-in-the-road moments and I didn’t even see it coming.”Jenny Han

Happy Thanksgiving, America! To my family, to old and new friends, and to the many people I’ve been privileged to meet and get to know around this world… thank you.

“Your brother is…”

“Your brother is your first male friend in your life. No one will ever understand your craziness like your brother. Even if you don’t get together and talk as much as you’d like, he always remains your friend. While people come and go in your life, your brother will always be in your heart for a lifetime.” -Unknown

Yesterday afternoon, I discovered that the older brother of my college friend passed away after battling cancer. Continue reading

Going Boldly, Wanting Freely

“You have been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.” –Louise L. Hay

In this limbo-time after recently giving my best effort for an interview, you can quote me on this when I finally know the results: “I’m pursuing what I really want, and I don’t regret doing this.”

I’ll admit, I’m sometimes the most dense person I know. When I don’t clue in to how I’m thinking, and when I don’t pay attention to the self-talk that filters through my daily thoughts, I can convince myself of bizarre things. In these last few weeks, I’ve been taking deliberate steps toward new career goals and long-time aspirations. Continue reading

“…. You are braver than you believe…”

“If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together… there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” –A.A. MilneWinnie-the-Pooh (Christopher Robin)
Ever find yourself knowing the reality of something in your mind, but struggling to understand and accept it in your heart? I’m speaking in generalities of course. Yet for myself, I’m coming to realize that I’ve created a strong inner-monologue of doubt. Continue reading

“Every great dream begins with…”

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” –Harriet Tubman

I wrote this quote on a sticky note  months ago, and it’s stayed pinned to the side of my top desk. I glance at it (and others I have there) on occasion, but today my eye focused on the “always remember” and made me read it over again. I find it amazing how thoughts you may have considered before can take on an enhanced personal meaning as time passes. More than anything, I’m glad I noticed and pondered this quote again, especially on a day like today when I’m close to overwhelmed by the many unknowns that are ahead of me. These words cheered me considerably, giving me a dash of courage. I hope they’ve done the same for you.
